A first-of-its-kind coffee maker for an industry leader
Fellow has been leading the way in crafting coffee experiences since its conception. Historically focusing on creating equipment for bespoke and small batch coffee brewing (pour overs, French presses, grinders), the brand broke new ground with the development of Aiden, an electric coffee brewer that gives unprecedented control of the coffee brewing experience.
While interning at Branch Creative I had the opportunity to contribute to the concepting and vision phase of this program. The entire project can be seen here.
About Fellow
Founded in 2013, Fellow has made a significant impact on the coffee industry by combining functionality with elevated, modern design. Their product line includes high-quality pour-over kettles, grinders, and brewing accessories that cater to both professional baristas and home coffee enthusiasts.
A long-time design partner with Fellow, Branch was selected to design their inaugural electric coffee brewer. The team rose to the challenge to design an innovative appliance that surpassed Fellow’s existing product offerings in experience, precision, and quality of coffee brewed.
Precision Brewer
The Aiden Precision Coffee Maker was designed to deliver an unprecedented electric brewing experience. The selected design communicated this commitment to quality through a sharp, precise design that didn’t look like any existing coffee brewers on the market.
Establishing an Icon
The products in Fellow’s lineup are iconic and memorable. With its controlled square architecture, the Aiden Coffee Brewer adds to this repertoire and subverts expectations for an electric coffee brewer.
Pour Over Quality
With a programmable bloom function and showerheads for either single serve or batch brew modes, the Aiden brewer delivers similar control to a pour-over experience.
Familiar Interface
Leveraging brand icons from Fellow’s existing products, the macro-button acts as a familiar and clear touch point delivering the satisfaction and reassurance of tactile control.
Customizable Profiles
Built-in brew profiles give the user control over the brew temperature, ratio, bloom, pulses, batch size, and more.
Process
Working between sketches, CAD, and physical quick and dirty foam mockups helped to validate scale, form, and overall gesture.
