Small Batch Coffee Grinder
Our goal for this project was to create a set of visuals for market testing of a concept. We began the process of designing the Origin1 by looking at the interesting intersection of the coffee ritual and the exactness of scientific instruments. We were able to quickly turn around a set of marketing assets that not only explained the functions of the device, but evoked an emotional response in the user and helped inform the brand language going forward.
Design a single serve burr grinder.
Project concept
Appliance grade power
The product should be as robust and reliable as a large appliance burr grinder.
Small form factor
The product should explore the size and usability of a smaller grinder. A smaller form ensures the user is always using fresh beans.
Aesthetic benchmarks
Modern Scientific
We looked to objects of measurement and exactness to create a product whose form speaks to the precision of its function and the modernism of contemporary coffee brewing culture.
Hopper loading
Conical hopper helps distribute beans into the burr grinder.
Grind adjustment
Lightly textured adjustment knob enables control of grind coarseness.
Power switch
Intuitive and thoughtful switch built into the design of the housing.
